Park application will be heard

The proposal for a park on the riverside at the old Twickenham Baths will be supported by Ken Hathaway's colleagues among the group of residents that drew up the application he submitted to Richmond Council before he died unexpectedly last week.

The group opposes the major commercial development envisaged for the borough-owned site by the council in partnership with developers and is pressing for a park with some tourist and leisure facilities plus new toilets. The residents' proposal will in future be called the Hathaway
Memorial Park and an officer's report to the committee commends it.

"This application provides some of the requirements of the UDP site brief and could not be said to prevent the future implementation of the proposal site in such a way that I feel able to recommend its refusal," states the report by Roy Summers, Planning Officer at Richmond Council.

The application will be before the Development Control Committee of Richmond Council on Thursday evening 19th July.
